The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under home detention pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This included attempting to break his ankle monitor and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, the magistrate said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or watch it all from your smartphone there on your couch? I call on you to battle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."
