Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person became sick at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.

She stated Ruben proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

The prosecutor stated the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
