Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for information.
An important official said the incident rendered him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
